Mission Statement

The mission of the Delaware State Police Museum is to preserve, interpret and display the history of the Delaware State Police to provide an educational experience that supports a more thorough understanding of the role of law enforcement in a society governed by the rule of law.

In the Beginning:

From a small group of motorcycle highway patrolmen, the Delaware State Police has evolved into a comprehensive, full service law enforcement agency of over 600 troopers. Since its inception in 1923, the Delaware State Police has enjoyed a longstanding tradition of providing the citizens of Delaware with excellent police protection and service. Preparing for and understanding the future changes facing law enforcement can sometimes be best accomplished by studying one's past history and milestones. The Delaware State Police Museum and Education Center, Inc. has been designed with just that thought in mind. Through studying and understanding our past, the Delaware State Police hope to provide the citizens and visitors of the First State with the history of how the State Police have been able to faithfully protect and serve the State of Delaware in an exemplary fashion for over 80 years.

Education Center

Another major goal of the Delaware State Police Museum and Educational Center is to provide visitors and, in particular, students and youth with a great deal of insight as to how Delaware State Troopers are preparing to effectively Serve You and Your Community well into the 21st Century.

The Delaware State Police are very proud of their heritage and want to share it with the public through the use of this new state-of-the-art educational facility. Visitors and guests alike will have the opportunity to learn about law enforcement methods, substance abuse prevention, highway safety efforts, and a wide variety of other important topics from specially trained troopers and volunteers assigned to the Museum and Educational Center.

From viewing patrol cars and motorcycles of the past, to sitting at an actual 911 command and control console, guests can enjoy a view of policing from both the past and present.

Other exhibits on display include:

  • Criminal Investigation Methods
  • Highway Safety Efforts
  • Community Services and Safety Education Activities
  • Police Vehicles and Equipment
  • Uniforms and Weapons, both past and present
  • Communications Technology
  • Police Specialization

Also included as an integral part of the Museum is a complete memorial dedicated to the troopers who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice for public safety.
